Heritage Stage Band

The Heritage Stage Band (H.S.B.), founded by the esteemed Melton Mustafa, is making a powerful resurgence to celebrate and preserve the vibrant legacy of jazz within the Black cultural experience. This in-house instrumental music apprenticeship program, designed for youth ages 9-19 at the DAHCAC, offers an immersive environment for young musicians to refine their craft

Program Overview

Students in the program perform in at least one major concert each year and participate in events for dignitaries and special occasions throughout the year. Growth and development are fostered through performances, open rehearsals, cultural excursions, workshops, and community service.

Development and Skills

The Heritage Stage Band aims to enhance members’ music-reading abilities and improvisational skills, qualities sought by magnet schools and professional music organizations.
