The African Heritage Youth Theatre (A.H.Y.T) 2017-2018 Auditions
The African Heritage Youth Theatre (A.H.Y.T) will be hosting auditions for their 2017-2018 season. The auditions are on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Wendell A. Narcisse Performing Arts Theater at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC), 6161 NW 22nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33142. The audition will begin at 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
Last year, AHYT returned to the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center after a 3- year hiatus. This past June, the company performed their first showcase in front of a sold-out crowd. In its first year back, company members met with industry professionals, participated in workshops, and have also taken trips to see professional productions.
The African Heritage Youth Theatre is the in-house youth acting apprenticeship program at the AHCAC for ages, 10-18. Under the direction of Mrs. Jazmin Jones-Oliver, training focuses on audition techniques, scene work, method acting, technical production, and ensemble building. Students in AHYT perform two main-stage productions, attend cultural excursions and performances, and participate in workshops and community service.
AHYT strives to develop members’ acting repertoire and enhance both technical and theatrical skills magnet schools and professional agencies desire. Private lessons are provided during the week and ensemble training takes place every weekend. Young thespians can be invited to join AHYT or audition. Audition participants are asked to prepare a 1-minute monologue along with a verse and chorus of a song. Although singing is not a requirement, the panel want to see what they can do!
